Toyota Innova Crysta might soon get a factory-fitted CNG kit as a test mule has been recently spied. It could be exclusively for the cab fleet operators.
As we reported earlier, Toyota is planning for CNG cars in the near future. The first recipients of it might be the Glanza and Yaris. For this, Toyota will use Maruti’s CNG technology, the latter having four CNG cars in its kitty.
Based on the recent spy shot, we think that even Toyota Innova Crysta will get CNG soon. The test mule has been spied uncamouflaged but with the CNG badging on the rear mirror. For that big a car, you would definitely need a big CNG kit.
Toyota Innova Crysta CNG will come with the petrol engine as the primary source of power. It was recently upgraded to BS6 norms but with the same 2.7-litre petrol engine. The motor is capable of producing 166 PS at 5,200 RPM and 245 Nm at 4,000 RPM.

With the addition of a CNG kit, the Innova will produce comparatively lower power figures. It will only come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Further, the fuel efficiency of Innova CNG will be nearly 30-40% more than its petrol counterpart.
The recent BS6 upgrade has increased the prices of Toyota Innova by Rs 43,000. The price of its petrol variants now ranges from Rs 15.36 Lakhs to Rs 22.02 Lakhs (Ex-showroom). The CNG will only come on selective variants, probably one or two base-spec variants and a mid-spec variant.
Moreover, Toyota could place it as a perfect buy for the cab fleet operators. Seeing the increase in diesel prices by over a Lakh, many can also look at the option of Innova CNG. It will further help in boosting the sales numbers.
