In an off-roading episode by Northern Overlanders, a bunch of SUVs go dune bashing and some naturally get stuck. Watch the new and old Toyota Fortuner help each other out to get out of the sand when they get stuck!
While India may be quite crazy about SUVs, we do not really have a vibrant off-roading culture here in India. Most of our SUVs are left crawling about in the city or are taken out for long distance touring. But a very essence about SUVs are their off-roading ability. We have quite a few full-size SUVs here in India that are plenty capable off the tarmac, like the Ford Endeavor, the Toyota Fortuner, the Isuzu V-Cross, the Mahindra Thar and many more.
There are however some privately owned group that take their SUVs to extreme terrains to push their vehicles to its limits and among the very few in India, one prominent group would be Northern Overlanders. The folks take their SUVs over some challenging terrains in parts of Haryana, Rajasthan and also up on the mountains and make videos about them for you and I to enjoy. So here’s a similar video of the group dune bashing somewhere in Rajasthan with a bunch of Toyota Fortuners, Ford Endeavour , Maruti Gypsy, Mahindra Thar, and Isuzu V-Cross.
The video shows the SUVs going up and down the huge sand dunes with great ease. The surface is very loose and its quite easy to sink your vehicle in the sand in such circumstances. And that’s exactly what happens to a previous-gen Toyota Fortuner. It tries to recover itself from the sand but eventually, a new-gen Fortuner has to come to its help to tow it out. After some time, even the new-gen Fortuner gets stuck in the sand and this time, quite badly so. The older Fortuner tries to tow it out but the new Fortuner is in a pretty precarious situation as it stands the risk of toppling over.

Eventually, the guys resort to an electric winch to pull out the new-gen Fortuner and they succeed. Later in the video, a Ford Endeavor and the Isuzu V-Cross also found themselves in a similar situation and had to be winched out. Well, that’s the thing about off-roading and that’s why you should always head out in groups if you are intending some serious off-road adventure. You might have all the driving skills and also the most capable vehicles but its still possible to get stuck in certain tricky places when off-roading.

Imagine what would have happened if these vehicles were off-roading alone. It would have been almost impossible to retrieve the vehicle without any help. It’s also very important to have a proper understanding of the terrain and obstacles on the way. If unsure, its always a good idea to walk the obstacle and plan your trajectory in ahead. It’s also very important to have the right equipment in such scenarios. Take the winch or the shovel for example in this case. While its extremely fun, its always advisable to head out prepared than to find yourself in an unfortunate scenario.
