In theory, these two SUVs are rivals but there is one unequivocal winner when it comes to popularity.
As per the latest sales data, the Toyota Fortuner is a whopping 1000% more popular than the MG Gloster. On paper, both these SUVs compete in the same segment. However, the difference in the appeal and demand is quite astounding. On one hand, the Fortuner has been the most successful product in the 7-seat off-roading category in the country for years now. In fact, the only worthy rival was the Ford Endeavour. Unfortunately, Ford no longer manufactures cars in India. On the other hand, the Gloster is a luxury SUV which also comes with AWD configuration and powerful engines. But it might not be as rugged as the Fortuner.

Toyota Fortuner vs MG Gloster – Sales Comparison
As per the official sales data for August 2023, MG managed to sell just 240 units of its premium Gloster SUV. In this same month, Toyota sold a whopping 2,825 units of the Fortuner. This marks an over 1000% difference in the sales of the two SUVs. It is hard to believe that these two SUVs belong to the same segment. Moreover, this is a testament to the popularity and success of the Fortuner in our market. It is true that the only Endeavour was the SUV which went toe-to-toe with the Fortuner during its time in India. Now it is no longer there and the Fortuner is the undisputed champion in this category.
