The recently launched Toyota Hilux uses the same platform as the Fortuner but has a pickup truck body shape.
This video nearly captures the Toyota Fortuner Legender and Hilux pickup truck parked side-by-side. It is a great opportunity to compare the road presence of these two products from Toyota that are based on the same platform but have completely different applications. The Fortuner is a luxurious full-size SUV that is a massively capable off-roader. It has posted consistently healthy sales for Toyota over the years. On the other hand, the Hilux is a utilitarian and capable off-roading pickup truck. Hilux is more oriented towards people looking for adventurous journeys with a large cargo compartment.

Toyota Fortuner Legender vs Hilux – Road Presence
The YouTuber catches these two Toyota products parked right next to each other. Despite being based on the same platform, the Hilux is much longer than the Fortuner which is evident in the visuals. Let us glance through the dimensions of these Toyotas.
Dimensions (mm) | Fortuner | Hilux |
Length | 4795 | 5325 |
Width | 1855 | 1855 |
Height | 1835 | 1815 |
Wheelbase | 2745 | 3085 |
It is clear from the table above that the Hilux is substantially longer than the Legender and also has tons of more wheelbase. This is due to the body type of these two SUVs.

Exterior Design
The video also presents a great opportunity to compare the exterior styling of these two. The Hilux features beefier headlamp units, a broader front grille with thick chrome surrounds and chunkier wheel arches. At the rear, the taillamps of the Hilux are rather simple but there is a lot of chrome on the bumper to raise the bling quotient.
The Legender, on the other hand, has a sleek LED headlamp cluster and front grille, the alloy wheels are more stylish and the tail-end is definitely more attractive. All in all, the exterior styling of both these products justifies the purpose.
