The Toyota Fortuner GR Sport has been spotted in India hinting at an imminent launch. We compare this ‘Gazoo Racing’ version with the current top-spec ‘Legender’ version.
Toyota might be planning to launch the GR Sport version of the Fortuner in India that would be positioned above the current top-spec Legender. After the disappearance of Ford Endeavour in our market, Toyota has been trying to ensure that variants of Fortuner are well spread out to offer the customers a wide variety of versions. It wants to capture the entire market share for this segment for itself. That is why we see new versions of the Fortuner so frequently.

As per the GR Sport version available in the Philippines, there are a few aesthetic changes to this variant compared to the Ledgender that is offered in India. At the front, the grille is dark-out and there is a ‘GR’ badging on it, the bumper is slightly redesigned and the fenders also sport the ‘GR’ badging. The alloy wheels are also slightly different with GR styling and brake callipers. The tail section features a minute tweak with the taillight design and GR badging. However, the overall silhouette will be based on Legender itself.

Specs
While Toyota has not officially announced it yet but we reckon the powertrain options will continue to be the same as in the existing models in India. This means that it will come powered by a 2.7-litre petrol unit (164 bhp / 245 Nm) and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine (201 bhp / 420 Nm). It is paired with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. With the automatic transmission, the torque produced is a massive 500 Nm with the diesel mill. The 4×4 drive system will only be offered with the diesel variants. In the Philippines, the Fortuner GR Sport comes with just diesel powertrains.
