Launched along with the mid-life facelift, the Legender as well as the latest Toyota Fortuner come with 18-inch alloy wheels from the factory
Toyota Fortuner is easily among the most loved SUVs to have ever gone on sale in the country. It rivals models like the MG Gloster and while it did have some competition from the Ford Endeavour, the discontinuation of the American SUV has given the Japanese vehicle a free run of sorts. The second-gen Fortuner received a facelift in 2021 along with the introduction of the Legender variant. Both these SUVs come kitted out with 18-inch alloy wheels from the factory but today, we have a couple of videos that show these models with gigantic 28-inchers!

So far, we have seen many Toyota Fortuners that have been fitted with bigger wheels. It’s not out of normal to see the SUV with 20-inch or even 22-inch alloys that enhance its visual appeal. But it’s actually the first time that we are seeing the two SUVs with gigantic 28-inch wheels that are totally an overkill but still make the SUVs look badass. While the facelift sports spiral-pattern wheels, the Legender has a twin multi-spoke design that looks very sporty.
Both the videos that you see here have been uploaded by Aami ro channel on Youtube. In both the cases, the wheels can be seen protruding out of the wheel arches. This modification is surely quite unique and the only example in the country of the latest Fortuner with such huge wheels. The new rims have increased the ride height by a huge degree and help the SUVs with a great road presence. All of this enhanced street cred is due to these huge rims, which, in both cases, are finished in chrome and even add a lot of bling to the already flamboyant design. These wheels are shod with ultra low profile tires. Visually, of course, this arrangement make both the vehicles look really good but one mustn’t forget that they limit the capabilities of the vehicle by a huge margin.

First of all, such low profile tires ruin the ride quality by a huge margin. We’re sure the occupants of the SUVs feel even the smallest of the irregularities the Fortuners pass over. Plus, with such an increased ride height, even the handling capabilities go for a toss as the body roll increases considerably due to the higher centre of gravity. Also, with bigger tires, the drag coefficient goes up considerably, which not just reduces the performance but even the fuel efficiency. Finally, such modification are illegal and can invite penalties.
