Toyota Fortuner is the most popular full-size 7-seat SUV in the country that started its journey in our market with humble beginnings.
You would be surprised to find out the change in the costs of Toyota Fortuner from 2009 to 2022. This legendary SUV was introduced in our market back in 2009 with high hopes. It was an internationally-acclaimed product even back then. Toyota Kirloskar Motor hoped to sell over 2,000 units in 2009 with a starting price of Rs 18.45 lakh, ex-showroom. Needless to say, it was a lot of money back in the day. Little did we know that the Fortuner will go on to become the most successful full-size SUV the country would ever see.

Toyota Fortuner Costs From 2009 to 2022
The only competitor it had back then was the other legend of the segment, Ford Endeavour. Interestingly, until last year (2021) these two remained the most popular products in the segment. We all know that Ford quit manufacturing cars in India last year and the Fortuner remains the sole popular product. However, there is some competition from the likes of MG Gloster but nothing major. That is the reason why Toyota now prices its top GR-Sport trim at just under Rs 49.60 lakh, ex-showroom.

Who would’ve thought that this SUV from Toyota could become even more expensive than the luxury car brands? Of course, the quality of the product and the capabilities of the SUVs have increased manifold since then as well. It is now more capable than ever when it comes to off-road equipment, the engines are more powerful in its current iteration and the looks are certainly more modern.
