After a successful first season, Toyota Kirloskar Motor announced today that they will return to the race track with Etios Motor Racing Trophy. Drivers will compete against each other in the second edition of the EMR Trophy which will be a part of the National Racing Championship. The EMR Trophy will have only two rounds this year and will coincide with the third and the fifth round of the National Racing Championship. The first round will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore on the 19th and 20th July 2014. This will be the first time that the EMR Trophy will be held in Coimbatore.
Commenting on the announcement, N. Raja, Director & Sr. Vice President – Marketing and Sales, TKM said, “Toyota introduced EMR in India in 2012 with an aim to promote motorsports at a grass root level and make motorsports more accessible and popular in India. The EMR platform has helped talented young racers develop their motoring skills, and further trained them to gain a competitive edge for their future. After the success of the inaugural EMR trophy last year, we are looking forward to the second edition of the trophy”.
The EMR series is being supported by TRD (Toyota Racing Development), the cars are FIA qualified with racing parts supplied by TRD, whose expertise will be utilized throughout the series. The new EMR driver line up which consists of a mix of existing and new EMR drivers, will compete for the title this year. The inaugural EMR trophy which was held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida last year saw Diljith as its first champion whereas Akhil Rabindra and Varun Anekar finished in the second and third places respectively.
Toyota has put the EMR cars on display in select dealerships in Coimbatore and Kerala and contests are held to provide people with a chance to experience the EMR cars on track.
