Toyota will have discontinued the Etios, Etios Cross and the Etios Liva from April 2020 as these models will not be updated to comply with the BS6 norms.
Come April 2020, Toyota will have discontinued the Etios, Etios Cross and the Etios Liva in India. The company stopped production of the Etios family back in January and the models will not be updated to comply with BS6 norms. The Etios family has been Toyota’s most affordable range of cars for about than a decade now. Although a little understated, the Etios has been a wonderful car underneath.
The Toyota Etios sedan was powered by either a 1.5-litre 90PS-132Nm petrol or a 1.4-litre 68PS-170Nm diesel. The Liva was powered by a 1.2-litre 80PS-104Nm petrol and the diesel engine from the former. The Etios Cross was then offered with all these three engines. All these engine were obviously BS4.
Toyota debuted the Etios sedan back in 2010. Since then, neither the sedan nor the hatchback derivatives have fared well on the sales front. Sales numbers since August 2019 show that the Glanza outsells each of the three models even if it isn’t as popular as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Naturally, it wouldn’t have been a viable economic option to upgrade the cars to BS6.

The Glanza will now be Toyota’s most affordable car in India in the BS6 era. The Glanza retails in India for a price of Rs 6.98 lakh to Rs 8.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it more expensive than the Etios Liva, which costs between Rs 5.35 lakh and Rs 7.78 lakh (ex-showroom). It powered by Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K12B engine that makes 83PS and 113Nm or the 1.2-litre Dualjet K12C engine that produces 90PS and 113Nm.

The Etios was one of the most timeless cars in its class in terms of build and it had wonderful dynamics as well. Unfortunately, like a lot of other cars too, the Etios has to be said goodbye due to the BS6 norms. Toyota’s joint venture with Maruti however will see more rebadged cars in the form of a MPV, Compact-SUV and a sedan.
