With the BS6 update, Mercedes has switched to a more powerful 3.0L inline six cylinder engine in place of the older 3.0L V6 engine for the range topping E 350d. It’s now priced at Rs 75.29 lakh.
You probably might have not been aware of this but the range-topping variant of the Mercedes Benz E-Class, the E 350d, eas not in sale in India for quite a few months. Mercedes Benz had sold out all existing BS4 stock way back in December of 2019 and it was absent from the car makers lineup for the first few months of 2020. Now, Mercedes-Benz has brought back the top-end Elite trim in the Mercedes E 350d and its now available for a price of Rs 75.29 lakh (ex-showroom) in its BS6 guise.
The BS6 Mercedes Benz E 350d is powered by a 3.0L inline six cylinder diesel engine. It’s not a new engine in Mercedes’ lienup in India as it has already been powering the S 350d in BS6 guise from 2018. Later, it was also introduced on the G 350d and the GLE 400d. This 3.0L diesel engine puts out 286bhp and 600Nm of torque. With the BS6 update, the E 350d actually sees a bump in power as the BS4-spec Mercedes E 350d was powered by a 3.0L V6 diesel engine 258bhp and 620 Nm of peak toruqe.
While the torque has gone down by 20Nm, the power has gone up by 32bhp and that’s significant bump in power which will definitely be felt. The 20Nm loss of torque will not be felt so much when you still have 600Nm on the tap. The engine comes mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox and Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of just 5.7 seconds for the new E 350d. Also, this is the only variant in the E-Class range that comes equipped with air suspension.

In terms of styling, this top-of-the-line E-Class distinguishes itself from its four-cylinder siblings with its larger 18-inch wheels as compared to the 17-inch wheels of the latter. Incidentally, the four-cylinder E-Class model were the first models from Mercedes to be converted from BS4 guise to BS6-spec last year. The E 350d is also unique for its open-pore black ashwood trimming inside the cabin. This is the range-topping model of the E-Class range and so it naturally comes equipped with all the bells and whistles that you already find in the four cylinder models.

It also gets some additional features and that includes the likes of memory function for the front seats and steering, wireless phone chargers at the front and rear seats – the Exclusive only has one charging pad at the rear, and a 360-degree camera. Interestingly, the E 350d gets Merc’s adapter-based connected-car tech while the E200 and E220d get the ‘me Connect’ eSIM-based tech. The Mercedes E 350d rivals the likes of the BMW 530d and the 630d GT and although the Audi A6 belongs to the same segment, it is only offered with a petrol engine and is not a direct competitor for these diesel luxury sedans.
