The trend and demand for SUVs are constantly rising as we take a look at the top mid-size SUVs on the sales charts for the month gone by
In this post, we take a look at the top 5 highest selling mid-size SUVs in January 2025. The Indian automobile market has been growing rapidly in the last few years. In fact, it is now the 3rd-largest automobile market on the planet. That is a huge achievement and represents India’s prowess in this field. SUVs of all shapes and sizes are a major contributor to this commendable feat. While the demarcation between the types of SUVs is getting blurred, in this post, we are considering the large mid-size SUVs. Let us get into the details here.
Top 5 Highest Selling Mid-Size SUVs in January 2025
Topping the charts was Mahindra Scorpio with 15,442 units sold last month. Note that this figure includes the Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic. However, the exact details of the two are not available. We know that Scorpio has been an iconic moniker in India for close to 2 decades now. People have really taken a liking to the new-age iteration of the Scorpio. Then we have yet another vehicle from the Indian auto giant taking the number 2 spot – the XUV700. It is the flagship ICE model on offer from Mahindra in India. There were 8,399 units sold of this premium SUV which is quite impressive.
Taking the 3rd and 4th spots are Tata Safari and Harrier with 1,548 units and 1,488 units sold in January 2025, respectively. These are the flagships from Tata Motors in India which showcase the best that Tata has to offer. The 5th spot was taken by Hyundai Alcazar with 1,310 units sold last month. In essence, it is the 3-row iteration of the famed Hyundai Creta which is why it has so many buyers. Thereafter, this list contains the MG Hector and Hector Plus. The British carmaker sold 449 units of these two SUVs. Finally, the Jeep Compass only managed to persuade 173 customers in January 2025. In total, 28,809 units were sold in the country last month from this mid-size SUV segment.
My View
The domination of the Indian automobile giants – Mahindra and Tata Motors – is evident on this list. The Scorpio duo, XUV700, Harrier and Safari have been immensely popular in our market in the last few years. The other carmakers are struggling to challenge their grip on this market space. On the other end of the spectrum, Jeep has been posting disappointing sales numbers consistently for a long time now. Clearly, people are not convinced about its products. Let us see how things pan out in times to come.
