The new Honda Amaze has commenced reaching dealerships to rival the mighty popular Maruti Dzire in our market
In this post, we shall glance at the top 5 features of the new-generation Honda Amaze. Amaze has been a popular product in our market since 2013. It belongs to a segment dominated by the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor. Still, it has been able to hold its own. That is a testament to its appeal. People get drawn to it due to its reliability and smooth driving dynamics. However, we recently saw the launch of the new-gen Maruti Dzire. To keep up with the competition, even Honda is bringing the next-generation iteration of the Amaze. The launch is slated for December 4. Let us see its main highlights ahead of the launch.
Top 5 Features of New-Generation Honda Amaze
ADAS
Let us commence with one of the most talked-about safety features in today’s day and age, the ADAS. ADAS refers to the Advanced Driver Assistance System. Modern cars use tons of electronics including radars, sensors and multiple cameras. This allows them to sense obstacles around them. Using ADAS, the electronic control unit of the car becomes so capable that it can take decisions like autonomous braking and acceleration depending on the road conditions. In fact, there are two stages to ADAS – Level 1 and Level 2. In the former, we see things like Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, etc. With the latter, the car is able to brake on its own and even accelerate using the Adaptive Cruise Control feature. We are expecting the new Amaze to, at least, get Level 1 ADAS. If that is the case, it will be the first car in this segment to boast that active safety feature.
8-inch Infotainment Display
Next up, we understand that the upcoming new-gen model will get an 8-inch infotainment display. Note that the current model gets a 7-inch unit integrated inside the dashboard. However, in recent times, we have spotted the new Amaze arriving at the dealerships. In those spy images, along with the official design sketches revealed by Honda, we saw a free-standing touchscreen unit. This will be slightly larger than the one on the existing model. We reckon it will be an 8-inch unit with a new interface and all sorts of information for the driver, and passenger, as well as to operate in-cabin amenities including multimedia and HVAC.
New Alloy Wheels
It is a common trend in the automotive world to experience a new set of alloy wheels with a facelift or a new-gen model of any car. That is exactly what we saw in the latest visuals of the new Amaze. In all honesty, I felt a resemblance with the City’s alloy wheel design. That is, of course, not a bad thing since City is among the most handsome-looking products in this space. Note that the current model wears 15-inch alloy wheels. Perhaps, the wheel size might remain the same with the new version as well. Nevertheless, the new alloy wheel pattern will certainly elevate the road presence of the compact sedan.
LED Headlights
In addition, the new-generation Honda Amaze will even come with all-LED lighting. This includes the headlamps, cornering lamps and taillamps. Now, we know that all modern cars use this feature. Hence, it is clear that Honda will not be missing out on common features. We know that having great headlights is a critical safety feature which can prevent terrible instances on the roads. Oftentimes, our roads are not well-lit. As a result, the visibility can be low which poses safety concerns. But having strong LED lighting will ensure that you are able to drive safely regardless of how dark it is outside.
6 Airbags
Finally, passive safety is something new-age car buyers are extremely particular and conscious about. In recent years, people have taken into consideration the safety rating of a car before making a purchase decision. Resultantly, carmakers have been working hard to ensure that they offer the latest active and passive features in their products. That is exactly what we will see with the new Amaze as well. While it will get 6 airbags in the higher trims, it will be interesting to see if the Japanese auto giant offers it from the base trim itself. We know that Hyundai gives 6 airbags in all variants of its every car model in India. That was a welcome step from the Korean auto giant. I would love to see Honda do it too.
Specs and Price
The one aspect which I believe will remain unchanged in comparison to the current Amaze is what lies under the hood. We expect it to carry a similar 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol mill which is good for a healthy 90 PS and 110 Nm of peak power and torque, as on the existing car. This engine will pair to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Also, it bears a price tag of Rs 7.29 lakh to Rs 10.05 lakh, ex-showroom. Clearly, we can expect the new-gen model to command a slight premium over these prices. Let us keep an eye out for the official launch in the coming days.
