The monsoon season is approaching which brings with it rust on the cars, bikes and scooters that reduce the life of components quite significantly.
This video captures the top 3 tips to protect a bike or scooter from the harmful effects of rust. Rusting is a common phenomenon in the metal parts of automobiles that are exposed to the environment. This includes things like nuts, bolts, and metal garnishing at various parts of a bike. Once the rusting commences, it could eat away the metal completely if not treated timely. The aim of the video is to prevent the rust from ever accumulating, in the first place.

3 Tips To Protect Bike From Rust
- AP-3 Grease: The most common way to prevent any metal from rusting in any automobile is the application of grease. The AP-3 grease is the automotive-grade grease that comes in gel form. It could easily be applied by hand to the components directly. The video shows the YouTuber applying grease to the nuts and bolts that are exposed to the atmosphere. It forms a protective layer on the surface preventing the oxidation of the metal when rainwater comes in contact with the surface.

- Anti-Rust Spray: The issue with grease is that it is difficult to apply it to the hidden areas of a bike. To remedy this, the Anti-Rust Spray is the solution. The long and thin funnel at the end of the bottle makes the hard-to-reach areas accessible. The way this works is similar to the grease in that it forms a preventive layer on the metal surface and the rusting process is stopped from starting. Before applying it, make sure to clean and dry the surface. It could be used every 15-20 days during the rainy season and every 30-45 days during other times. It could even clean the areas where mild rusting has already begun.

- Metal Polish: Yet another effective way to prevent rusting on bikes and scooters is the use of metal polish. For this, you need a dry micro-fibre cloth and use the paste (polish) to apply directly on the exposed surfaces. Make sure to apply it thoroughly until the paste has been absorbed by the component.
