This three-door Maruti Zen Steel has received a lot of tuning under the hood and now produces more than 170 BHP on tap. That’s more than 100 BHP extra that you are getting!
The three-door Maruti Zen Carbon and Steel were literally limited edition Hot Wheels. They had the same engine underneath but their styling was something unique for Indians. Both of them quickly grabbed eyes of auto enthusiasts who later modified it crazily. Here is one example of a Zen Steel which is more powerful than many turbo petrol cars under 20 Lakhs.
Under the hood, it gets a swapped 1.3 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine that further gets modifications. It uses an R200 ECU tuning upgrade from Race Dynamics, Custom BMC Carbon Intake Filter and a Free Flow Exhaust system. With these mods, the car can offer 170 BHP on tap at 7800 RPM. That’s sweet!

Further, it gets a closed ratio gearbox and Exedy race clutch. Since the car is used mostly in motorsport events, a race clutch seems appropriate. There’s a limited slip differential and aluminium flywheel used to keep the engine under weight and in good condition. Lastly, it gets better braking setup to handle all this power output.
As told earlier, this Maruti Zen Steel is mainly tuned for motorsport events. It gets a customized motorsport grade suspension setup with revised subframe. There’s also an anti-roll body cage added to ensure confident handling at greater speeds. The Zen sits on 14-inch aftermarket rims wrapped in MRF Rubber.
Zen Steel was originally a bit lighter and tighter around the corners compared to the original Zen. All three versions used the same 1.0 Litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which actually made them very peppy. Carbon and Steel were sold in very limited numbers and is a rare thing to see on roads.
