Maruti has confirmed that it will bring in the 5-seater Jimny in India by early 2021. The SUV will replace Gypsy in the sub-10 Lakh off-roading segment.
Maruti Gypsy was discontinued due to the stringent safety norms and upcoming BS6 emission norms as well. To fill the blank space, Maruti has confirmed that it will launch the Jimny in India in the early months of 2021.
In the global market, Maruti sells Jimny in a 3-seater only. We will be getting the 5-seater setup in the Indian market, because it is more practical. It is very popular in the European and Japanese market because of its compact size and off-roading capability.
Jimny was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo but in a three-seater version. This rendering of the SUV suggests that the styling will be exactly the same as seen with the 3-seater version. The wheelbase will be longer probably making it just under the 4-metre mark.

Under the hood, we are expecting it to carry the new 1.5 Litre four-cylinder K15B petrol engine. The motor produces 104 BHP and 138 Nm of peak torque. Mild-hybrid SHVS tech will also come on Jimny which is a highlight of this engine. Transmission options could include a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT.
We are yet to confirm if Maruti will be offering any off-roading equipment with the Jimny. It could possibly get the Suzuki All Grip AWD or a low-range transfer case gearbox. Anyhow, its bumpers and ground clearance are capable enough to take Jimny out of tough places.
The render shows that it will carry bits like round headlamps, an upright boxy stance, blacked out fender over the body, global-spec alloy wheels and muscular bumpers. Inside the cabin, it will get a simple layout and its dashboard theme will be similar to Brezza.

We are expecting Maruti to sell the Jimny in two or three variants, prices ranging between Rs 8 Lakhs to Rs 10 Lakhs. There are chances that it could be priced closely to the Vitara Brezza. Jimny will further replace Thar as the most affordable off-roading and lifestyle SUV.
