The Nissan Magnite has been spotted testing in India under a heavy camouflage ahead of its global unveil on July 16. This upcoming sub-compact SUV is slated for a launch in India in January 2021.
Until now, we have seen the Nissan Magnite only in teaser images teased by the company. While the Nissan Magnite is set to make it’s global debut in concept form on July 16, it has been spotted testing in India for the first time. Yes, the Nissan Magnite finally makes it’s spy shot debut. The test mule seen here is heavily camouflaged and there are barely any design details that can be made out. However, this test mule still gives us an idea about the proportions and profile of the upcoming SUV.
As seen here in these images, the silhouette of the Magnite reminds us a lot about the Nissan Juke sold internationally. The compact-SUV seems to have a long-ish sloping bonnet line and also a slightly sloping roofline. The rear section of the SUV is also quite bulging and curvy. You can also see the LED tail lamps through the camouflage, something that Nissan had already teased earlier. Although this test mule is only wearing steel wheels, the production-spec car will come with good looking alloys.
From teaser images of the Magnite seen earlier, we also know that the compact-SUV will have many Datsun design elements like the L-shaped DRLs as was seen on the recently facelift Redigo and also a Datsun-like grille. Under the hood, the Nissan Magnite will be powered by familiar engines from the Renault Triber. That includes the 1.0L, naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine from the Triber that produces 69bhp. It will also get the 1.0L turbo-petrol engine with around 100bhp that’s expected to debut on the Triber very soon. Both engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Meanwhile, we expect an automatic gearbox in the form of a CVT to be exclusively offered only on the turbo-petrol variants.

The Nissan Magnite will have its starting price from around the Rs 5 lakh mark and it might very well be cheapest in its segment. Additionally, even the turbo-petrol version with a CVT could have a sub-Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom) price tag. Nissan will also be offering some segment-best features on Magnite to make it more appealing and even if it is cheap, it will not be skimmed down on features. These features could include a 360-degree parking camera, connected car tech, large touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, etc.

The competition is stiff and it will have to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV300. There’s also the upcoming Renault Kiger and the Kia Sonet joining this segment. The Nissan Magnite will see its India launch in January 2021. It was initially supposed to launch in August 2020, but like many other things, this too has been delayed due to coronavirus.
