The 2014 Range Rover Sport has had its presence felt globally and now the elephant which runs like a cheetah is coming to India. And yes, it is official. As soon as the car was showcased at the 2013 New York Motor Show, the speculations about its launch in India started doing rounds on the interweb. But now the company has officially stated that the Range Rover Sport in its latest iteration will touch down on Indian shores right before the festive season of Diwali. The 2014 Range Rover Sport is the second generation of the car to be launched in India. A lot of manufacturers are lining up their cars for a Diwali launch but the Range Rover Sport is bound to steal the thunder from the rest.
The car in its latest iteration is ages ahead of its last generation. It has the flagship Range Rover’s all aluminium body construction as its underpinning which has helped it shed a lot of weight. The car has 5 engine options globally but the India-spec car will come with a choice of two engine options; A 3-litre, V6 diesel motor that has a maximum power output of 288 BHP and a peak torque of 600 NM and a 5-litre, V8 petrol motor which has a maximum power output of 510 BHP and a peak torque of 461 Nm.
Joining it will be a 5-litre, V8 Supercharged petrol motor which will have a maximum power rating of 503 BHP and a torque figure of 625 NM. Both the motors will be mated to an all new 8-speed ZF transmission. The car gets an optional third row seating as well but that is best suited for kids. The car gets a slew of features on the interiors as well that are bound to bring a smile to your face everytime you sit in the car.
The car gets a 12.3-inch resolution display that will replace the analogue dials. You get lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition, automatic high-beam assist, Flank Guard, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision sensing, cross-car traffic detection and parallel-parking assist amongst the long list of features that the car brings to the table. The car will come via the CBU route in India which will make it a bit costly.
Expect the diesel variant to be priced around Rs. 80 lakhs while the petrol one can be safely expected to cost around Rs. 90 lakhs. It may be costlier than the competition but then it is something the competition will never be. It is a Range Rover.
