Tesla comes with something known as the “Boat Mode” which allows it to be driven through the water-flooded streets. There are quite a few videos and images online depicting such situations. This could be encouraging news for the Tesla fans as the American Electric Car giant prepares itself to enter the Indian market, which is not short of water-filled streets either. This video is shot on a highway in China where Tesla already has the production facilities. The testing tracks in China are capable of simulating flooded road scenarios as Tesla claims that the “Boat Mode” ensures that one can drive in the Tesla through the water. The battery compartment is sealed and an electric car doesn’t need oxygen to move as is the case with the IC engine-powered vehicles.

“Boat Mode” Allows Tesla To Float On Water
Although it is not recommended, but if need be, your Tesla can stay aloof from water for quite a bit. The reasons are quite simple. Tesla cars are tested for such scenarios which are not really uncommon in most areas of the world. Surely, the car won’t stay afloat for prolonged periods. But to drive through water for some time or stay afloat in a parking position for a short duration is doable. The reason is simple. The bottom of the car is a flat board as it houses the battery pack. With proper sealing of these components, theoretically, the car could hold itself on water. The video shows the Tesla owner driving through water up to the windshield of the car. Other cars on the highway seem to be struggling. There are other images showcasing a Tesla floating on water in flooded environments.
