This new ZIPTRON EV tech from Tata Motors is said to be much more advanced and efficient than the current technology that Tata uses in the Tigor EV.
Tata Motors have been gearing up to launch a couple of EVs in the Indian market by b the next year, and in that context they have revealed a new EV powertrain technology. They call it the ZIPTRON and it will feature in the upcoming electric vehicles from Tata Motors, with the first EV scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2020.
This new ZIPTRON EV powertrain technology sources power from advanced lithium-ion cells which can give a car a minimum driving range of 250 kms on a single charge. The battery pack will be liquid cooled and it will be packed in a solid IP67 case which provides a high strength outer shell to protect critical EV components and also serves for waterproofing and dust protection. It also supports fast charging.
The system uses a high-voltage 300V-plus permanent magnet synchronous electric motor, which Tata Motors claims is much advanced than the 72V AC induction-type motor found on the Tigor EV. The company is also providing a warranty of eight years on the battery pack and the electric motor. This system has been specifically designed for Indian weather and traffic conditions and comes with a dedicated cooling circuit to provide consistent performance.
The motor will come mated to a single-ratio transmission and Ziptron cars will even feature drive modes to allow the drivers to either optimize between range or performance. The system also features regenerative braking and has been tested for over 1 million kilometers during the development programme.
