Tata Motors, one of the leading Indian auto giants, is close to unveiling a handful of new products at the fast-approaching Auto Expo 2018. One of the upcoming Tata cars in India is a premium hatchback that will rival the likes of Maruti Baleno. Internally codenamed as the X451, this hatchback is currently in concept stages and will make its debut at the upcoming motor show. The Tata X451 hatchback will feature IMPACT 2.0 design language, which is basically the next stage of the company’s current design theme. The company has already teased the upcoming concept thru various teaser images. Taking hints from the teasers, Twitter user Ashif Gani has even come up with a speculative rendering of the premium hatchback concept.

Designed on the new IMPACT 2.0 theme. the concept car has been developed with inputs from the company’s design centres in India, UK and Italy. As you can see in the teaser images below, the new car will have some bold creases and fairly taut surfaces. Also, the car will borrow some design cues from the Nexon compact SUV. Hence, it will likely come with a dual-tone paint job, a bold grille, stylish alloy wheels and a well-pronounced white-coloured strip running on the shoulder line. Also expect the new car to boast LED headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights and LED taillights.
There are good chances that the Tata X451 hatchback would launch in the market by the end of next financial year. As the X451 would rival the Baleno, expect it launch in a price range of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

The new Tata X451 hatchback (Maruti Baleno rival) will become the first car to be underpinned by the company’s Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). The new-age platform will even underpin the X451-based sedan and other upcoming Tata cars measuring upto 4.4 metres in length. The new premium hatchback will share its engines with the Tata Nexon compact SUV. Hence, the new car would offer a 1.2-litre turbocharged, three-cylinder Revotron Petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder Revotorq Diesel engine. Both the engines will be available with two transmissions – 6-speed Manual and 6-speed AMT.
Tata X451 Hatchback Mileage
Petrol | 17 KMPL |
Diesel | 21.5 KMPL |
As the engines come from the Nexon, even the mileage won’t be too different from what the compact SUV offers. Safely expect the petrol engine variant to have an average mileage of roughly 17 kmpl. On the other hand, the Diesel engine variant will offer a mileage of up to 21.5 kmpl. True, this won’t make the new X451 the best mileage hatchback in its price segment but the motors will offer a really good mix of power and average mileage.
