Tata Motors, a native automaker which is well known for its commercial vehicles and affordable cars is changing the way consumers look at it as a brand. Tata in recent years has launched a lot of exciting cars like the Tigor, Hexa and the Nexon. For competing with the likes of Hyundai’s Elite i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, Tata is coming up with a hatchback which might turn the table. Codenamed as Tata X451, the car will give a hard time to its rivals.

The new Tata X451 will be based on the new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) which can be used to underpin an array of products with varying dimensions and body style. A sedan version of the new X451 is also in works and is expected to launch later next year. This sedan counterpart will challenge the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Both the sedan and the hatchback versions will offer a wide variety of features which might give them an edge over its competitors.
Tata X451 Price in India
Variant | Expected Price |
Base Model | Rs 5 lakh |
Top Model | Rs 9 lakh |
The X451 hatchback will be a B2-segment hatchback that will go on to rival premium hatchbacks such as the Maruti Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20. Hence, safely expect the upcoming car to cost significantly more than the Tiago. That said, Tata Motors has been pricing all its recent models very competitively and could adopt a similar pricing strategy for the X451. We think the entry-level variant would cost roughly Rs 5 lakh. The fully-loaded top-end Diesel model, complete with an AMT, could cost upward of Rs 9 lakh.

The new Tata X451 will launch with two engine options, a petrol, and a Diesel. The petrol engine will displace 1.2-litres and will be a turbocharged unit. The Diesel engine on offer will be a 1.5-litre Turbo motor. Both these engines come from the Nexon SUV and are high on power and fuel mileage. The engines will come mated to 6-speed manual transmissions as standard. Also, Tata might even provide AMTs for both the motors.
Tata X451 Mileage
Petrol | 17 KMPL |
Diesel | 21.5 KMPL |
As the engines come from the Nexon, even the mileage will be pretty much the same. The latest compact SUV from Tata Motors offers an ARAI-tested mileage of 17 KMPL from the petrol engine and 21.5 KMPL from the Diesel motor. While these won’t make the X451 the best mileage hatchback in its category, they will certainly ensure that there’s a good mix of power and average mileage. Also, even the AMT units will offer at least as much mileage as the manual transmission variants. This will be because of their fuel efficient nature. It may be noted here that AMTs, unlike torque converter automatics, aren’t fuel-sapping units.

Tata X451 Exterior and Interior Design
The Tata X541 will feature a brand new design which could be a design upgrade to the existing IMPACT design. The IMPACT design which was featured in the Tiago and was passed on to the Tigor and Nexon is already a head turner. We hope that the new design will ditch the Indica essence and will become a visually appealing car. The car will feature peeled back headlamps with projector elements, narrow grille with humanity line, low-mounted fog lights with integrated LED daytime running light elements, a low-slung profile and a fresh rear fascia is likely to be the design highlights. The Interior will also be re-designed to make it a complete package.
The interior will also sport a fresh design to complement the new-age exterior. We are pretty sure Tata will make use of high-quality materials to lend the cabin a very premium feel. This will ensure that the slightly more upmarket clientele won’t think twice before putting its money on a Tata. The company has pretty much failed in the premium hatchback with products like the Vista, and more recently, the Bolt. With the X451, things might change for the good.
The upcoming Tata X451 will be launched in late 2018. Considering the fact that it has a lot of time, we should be patient to get more details about this car. The car will pack a punch under the hood, will have an eye-catchy design and will pack tons of new features. Only time will tell if the car will be able to give a hard time to the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno Rs and others.
