Car enthusiasts are always looking to stretch their capabilities. A new video shows how a Tata Tigor owner managed to drive for 11,500 Km for free.
Tata Tigor is one of the best cars on the Indian roads. The sub-compact sedan comes with an affordable price tag (Rs 5.98 lakh – Rs 8.57 lakh) and solid specs. The company even offers an EV variant. While the Tigor EV comes with a bigger price tag (Rs 12.24 lakh – Rs 13.39 lakh), it gathers very minimal running costs. An Ahmedabad-based resident even managed their Tigor EV for 11,500 km for “free”. The Tata Tigor EV driving experience was captured in a new YouTube video uploaded by PluginIndia Electric Vehicles.

As you can see in the video above, Mr. Samarth has been using the Tata Tigor EV for over five months. During this period, he has covered almost 11,500 km, with AC switched on all the time. Mr. Samarth’s daily commute involves 60 km of driving itself. He even drives in the Sport mode almost 30-40 percent of the time. However, the running cost for the Ahmedabad-resident was almost zero, thanks to a solar charging system installed at his home. The 10 kW solar panel system (installed on the roof) generates 50 units per day of electricity at its peak.
Mr. Samarth claimed that a single charge of the battery of Tigor EV consumes 26 units of electricity. However, his Tigor EV consumes 10 units of electricity per day. Since the electricity is sourced from his solar panels (that too significantly lower than the total electricity produced in a day), running the Tata Tigor EV daily has become free of cost. Mr. Samarth is impressed with the car’s style back’ coupe-like design, quick acceleration, and overall performance. However, he said that the company could improve the tire quality and add rear AC vents.
Tata Motors offers multiple EV models in the Indian market, including the popular Nexon EV. The Tata Tigor EV is a great option for city driving. It is backed by a 26 kWh battery and offers an ARAI-certified range of 306 km. The electric car is based on the regular IC-engine version of the Tigor. The front-mounted electric motor outputs 75 PS of maximum power and 170 Nm of maximum torque. It can be charged from 0-80 percent in 8.5 hours using a standard wall charger (60 minutes through a fast charger).

The Tata Tigor EV comes in three trims – XE, XM, and XZ+. While the base model (XE) costs Rs 12.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the top variant (XZ Plus Dual Tone) comes with a price tag of Rs 13.64 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric car comes with features like an auto AC, a 7-inch Harman touchscreen, four speakers, and more. Safety features on the car include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and hill ascent/descent control. Overall, the compact sedan and a solar panel seem like a great combination, if one can manage.
