A new camouflaged test mule of the Tata Tiago has recently been spotted testing and from the body cladding all around with roof rails, it seems to be the new NRG variant. However, it could be known by a different name this time around.
The Tiago is one of Tata Motor’s most popular products and it very recently crossed the 3 lakh sales milestone. There are also quite a few new special editions of the Tata Tiago coming up in the form of the Dark Edition and the Camo Edition. Tata Motors filed a trademark for these special edition variants of all their models sometime ago and that includes the Tiago as well. Incidentally, a new camouflaged test mule of the Tata Tiago has been spotted testing and from the looks in the spy images, this seems to be the facelifted NRG variant.
If you remember, Tata Motors launched the Tiago NRG back in 2018 as a more rugged version of the standard hatchback. It was however discontinued last year but going by these new spy images, the Tata Tiago NRG could be making a comeback. Just like the original Tiago NRG, this spied test mule also comes with underbody cladding and over the wheel arches as well. There’s also the addition of roof rails and a different angle from another photograph reveals that the hatchback will get blacked-out door handles and even new dual-tone alloy wheels.
This new crosshatch variant of the Tiago could however be known by a different name this time around. We already told you that Tata has recently trademarked the name Tiago CAMO and Tiago Dark, and while its obvious what the Tiago Dark Edition will be about, the Tiago Camo could very well be the name for the new NRG variant. It’s also pretty evident that this test mule is based on the BS6 Tiago facelift that was launched earlier this year from the rear portion of the car. In fact, all the upcoming special edition models will be based on the facelifted car.

The Tata Tiago is already quite an handsome looking hatchback in its segment after its facelift earlier this year. Some of the key exterior details include the glossyblack grille, fog lamps with chrome bezel, and 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The headlamps are however still halogen units and the Tiago still does not get LED DRLs. The Tiago packs in features like a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a flat-bottom steering wheel, rear parking camera, cooled glovebox, digital instrument cluster and auto-folding electric ORVMs and we expect all of it to be carried forward to the upcoming variant as well.

The older Tiago NRG shared its powertrains with the standard Tiago, and we expect that to be the case in the new one as well. The Tiago is currently powered by a sole 1.2L, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83PS and 113Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. Prices for the Tata Taigo range from Rs 4.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 6.73 lakh. We expect the NRG variant or whatever its called to be based on the the top-spec variants with a decent amount of premium over the standard car.
