We have seen, time and again, Tiago exceeding expectations in terms of build quality essentially earning the title of ‘Lord’ Tiago.
This mishap between Tata Tiago and Maruti Dzire throws up some interesting observations. Tiago is a 4-star safety-rated product and has impressed one and all with its strong performance in the unfortunate incidents recorded in the past. On the other hand, Dzire is the most popular sedan in the country but its body strength has often been questioned by owners. Nevertheless, this collision between the two brings out some interesting observations.

The video has been posted by Nikhil Rana on his YouTube channel. This incident has been reported from Jharkhand. Here, one of the Tiago driver was trying to overtake another vehicle on a dual carriageway. However, he miscalculated the manoeuvre and ended up hitting a Maruti Dzire coming in the opposite direction. The two cars hit each other almost head-on. Interestingly, in spite of the Tiago being marked as a safer car by NCAP, the two models have suffered a similar degree of damage.

The impact on the two vehicles is quite severe. The front section of the Tiago features a broken bumper, headlights, bonnet, grille, side mirrors, etc. However, the impact didn’t enter the cabin as the side pillars are intact. The airbags were deployed saving the occupants from any injury. On the other hand, the Dzire was hit from the front right side. As a result, the bonnet, bumper, grille, and headlights have incurred heavy damage. But due to the angle of impact, the passengers were safe as airbags were deployed and the impact was not head-on.

The Tiago has time and again proven to be a safe car, which is something that is even reflected in its 4-star safety rating by NCAP. However, in this case, the Dzire has performed equally well. This clearly shows that the NCAP score is definitely not the last word when it comes to crash performance of vehicles. Finally, we would like to caution our readers against overspeeding. It continues to be the most prominent reason for such undesirable situations on the road. Even here, had the drivers been driving slowly, they would’ve been able to avoid the crash. Therefore, we urge our readers to always follow the traffic rules and avoid overspeeding at any cost.
