The Tiago has so far enjoyed a fairly successful run in the highly competitive Indian small car market. The latest small car from Tata Motors, which was launched in April last year, made its debut with a 5-speed Manual Transmission. Now, however, the manufacturer has added a 5-speed AMT automatic transmission option to further expand the car’s appeal. The new Tata Tiago Easyshift AMT has gone on sale with an ex-showroom price of Rs 5.39 lakh in New Delhi. In Mumbai, the car costs Rs 5.73 lakh (ex-showroom). The AMT option is available only on the petrol engine variant. The car’s available only in the top-of-the-line XZA trim. The Tata Tiago AMT directly rivals the likes of Maruti Celerio AMT. While the Tiago AMT, which is available only in the top-end trim, costs more than its immediate rivals, the higher price tag is justified by the more kit on offer. The launch of the new Tigor compact sedan will soon follow the introduction of the Tiago Easyshift AMT.

The Tiago shook the competition with a really aggressive price tag. The AMT model, too, has a competitive price tag. The new Easyshift AMT model costs only about Rs 40,000 more than the Tiago XZ petrol model. The Celerio AMT prices start at about Rs 4.63 lakh. However, the Tiago AMT justifies its higher price tag with additional features and a better driving experience.

The manufacturer is yet to release the official figures on the Tiago AMT’s mileage. However, we’re guessing that the mileage would remain more or less the same.

Tata could subsequently offer the AMT option even on Diesel engine variant. For now, however, the AMT ‘box will be available on the petrol model. The Tiago petrol features a 1.2 L 3-cylinder engine that outputs 85 PS and 114 Nm. The AMT for Tiago is the same unit that’s also found in the Nano and the Zest.
