Tata Motors has been working on an Automatic transmission version of Tata Aria for quite some time now. Tata motors has showcased the Aria automatic at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi India. The car is same in dimension as the manual Aria and has a 6 speed G-85 automatic transmission system with a torque capacity of 450 Nm. Aria Automatic is powered by the same 2.2 Litre CRDI Engine with 156 PS of peak power and 400 Nm of torque. One key information revealed at the Expo is that the Automatic transmission for Tata aria will be available with both top end 4×4 variants as well as the lower priced 4×2 variants of Tata Nano.

Tata Aria Automatic is coupled to a G85 Automatic gearbox with 6 speed settings. It can be operated in Semi-remote shift mode, AMT mode and Direct Shift mode. There is triple synchronization system from 1st to 4th gear and double synchronization system for 5th and 6th gear. This transmission system is suitable for Aria, Tata Safari Storm and Tata Xenon.
