Tata Safari and Tata Nexon EV are facing each other in this cross-powertrain drag race. The Safari comes with a powerful diesel engine, while the Nexon EV has an electric powertrain. It is well-known that the EVs possess instant torque which makes them super quick off the line. The diesel engines are also known for having that turbo boost propelling a car forward at a certain RPM range. Let us see whose powertrain emerges triumphant in this drag race.

Tata Safari vs Tata Nexon EV – Drag Race
The YouTubers have decided to race these two seemingly different products. One is a premium mid-size SUV, while the other is an electric compact SUV. For the first attempt, both the SUVs are set to their sportiest settings, i.e., Sport Mode. After the countdown, the Safari is launched almost parallel to the Nexon EV but within a matter of seconds, the Nexon EV glides past the Safari never to be caught up again throughout the course of the race.

For the second attempt, they decided to switch the drivers to maintain consistency of results. This time around, the AC of both the cars are ON and so are the Sport Modes. This time, the Safari took a considerable lead after getting a great launch. However, the instant torque of the Nexon EV propelled it forward with authority and it overtook the Safari in no time. Once it went ahead, there was only going to be one winner. The Nexon EV took home the trophy after beating the Safari in both rounds quite effortlessly.

Specs Comparison
Tata Safari comes with the 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine making 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. There is the option of either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The prices of the Safari range from Rs 15.25 lakh to Rs 23.46 lakh, ex-showroom.

On the other hand, the Nexon EV comes with a 30.2 kWh high-density Lithium-Ion battery pack that powers the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor to output 129 PS and 245 Nm of peak power and torque. There are various drive modes and the 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 9.9 secs. The charging from 10-90% with a regular 15 A plug point 8.5 hours while 0-80% using a fast charger takes just 1 hour. The Nexon EV ranges from Rs 14.79 lakh and Rs 17.40 lakh, ex-showroom.
