This drag race between the new Maruti Swift and Tata Punch shows some intriguing results. Drag race is a modern phenomenon which content creators adopt to determine and compare the performances of two cars in straight-line acceleration. Swift is the newest hatchback in the country. It has been on sale in our market since 2005 and is one of the best-selling vehicles ever. We shall have to wait a bit to see how well the new Swift sells. On the other hand, Tata Punch is a successful micro SUV which has been performing exceedingly well on the sales charts month after month. Let us take a look at the performance of these cars on a drag strip.
Tata Punch vs Maruti Swift Drag Race
This video comes from MRD Cars on YouTube. The host has the two cars side by side. Note that the Swift has the manual transmission, while the Punch in this race carries an AMT. For the first round, they keep the AC on. On the count of three, both of them accelerate. Swift takes the lead because of the manual transmission. However, the Punch tries to overtake it at high speed. In this round, the Punch was able to take the cake. However, in subsequent rounds, the Swift didn’t let the Punch win even once. Towards the end, they perform the drag races with AC off in the Punch. However, Swift was the quicker of the two. Only after 5th gear does it slow down a bit. All in all, Swift was declared the winner of this race.
Specs Comparison
The new Maruti Swift comes with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine with a mild hybrid system. The result is a decent 82 PS and 112 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the Punch also has a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine which churns out a cool 88 PS and 115 Nm of peak power and torque. Even it gets the option of either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. In this race, the Swift had the 5-speed manual and the Punch had the AMT.

Our View
I have reported numerous drag race competitions between popular cars in recent times. YouTubers deploy this method to compare the performances of two cars. Now, I would like to advise our readers to not indulge in such activities in their private vehicles. These can prove to be perilous, especially if done on public roads. On top of that, vehicles are not meant to be driven in such a manner on a daily basis. Hence, straight-line acceleration is not what mass-market cars are made for. Therefore, you must take such videos for entertainment alone. Also, don’t encourage anyone to do such acts.
