Tata has launched the Punch iCNG in India and the first walkaround video is out. Tata is focusing on offering its customer alternative cars to the ICE version. We see this in terms of EVs and CNG. People are evidently frustrated with the ever-rising fuel prices. They are desperately looking for alternatives. Since electric cars are too expensive at the moment, CNG cars emerge as a great solution. If you are a city-dweller, there is enough infrastructure to ensure that you won’t struggle for CNG. Hence, CNG cars are gaining traction across the board, particularly in the last couple of years.

Specs
Tata Punch iCNG comes with the same 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron engine as the petrol counterpart. In the CNG guise, it generates a healthy 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of peak power and torque. The transmission duties are performed by a 5-speed manual gearbox. It has a ground clearance of 187 mm and a boot capacity of 210 litres. This amount of boot space is particularly impressive. It is a result of clever packaging by Tata Motors engineers. There are two CNG tanks that are accommodated underneath the boot cover where the spare tyre was traditionally placed. They have a capacity of 60 litres (water capacity). Instead, you get a tyre puncture repair kit in the Punch.

Price
The Punch iCNG ranges between Rs 7.10 lakh to Rs 9.68 lakh, ex-showroom. These are quite attractive numbers. People now have the option of choosing between CNG and electric powertrains in various Tata cars. That is the reason why Tata Motors is slowly challenging Hyundai for second place on the sales charts. It would be interesting to witness how well people receive it. The sales numbers for this month will clarify the entire picture.
