Tata Motors is planning to expand its EV portfolio with the electric Punch pretty soon.
In the latest video, a Tata Punch EV was spotted testing on a highway. Currently, Tata Motors stands as the dominant force in EV sales within the country’s market segment, boasting an impressive market share of over 80%. This achievement is primarily due to its straightforward strategy, which capitalizes on the popularity of its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. Essentially, Tata Motors has transformed these existing models into electric cars, with minimal alterations beyond the powertrain. Presently, the electric variants of the Nexon, Tiago, and Tigor are part of its lineup. With the forthcoming addition of the Punch, the lineup will be even more formidable. Let’s delve into the specifics.

Tata Punch EV Testing
This post comes from rushlane on Instagram. It captures visuals of the Punch EV on a highway. As is the case with all spy images, this test mule is wrapped with heavy camouflage. Nonetheless, we are able to deduce the identity of the EV via its familiar silhouette. Tata Motors has other electric cars in its portfolio which embody the design of their ICE counterparts. Apart from a few minor changes, there are not too many differences in the exterior design. Similarly, we can see the LED taillamps of this Punch EV in this video clip. They are similar to the regular Punch. We are certain that the front and side profiles will closely resemble the regular Punch too.

Specs
The Punch EV may come equipped with a 25.58 kWh Lithium-ion battery, possibly sourced from the Taigo model, offering an estimated range of approximately 320-350 km on a single charge. The electric motor is expected to provide a respectable performance with 74 hp and 114 Nm of peak power and torque. It will drive the front wheels through a single-speed transmission, allowing for an acceleration from 0 to 80 km/h in approximately 13.5 seconds. The anticipated top speed is around 85 km/h, with a primary focus on optimizing driving range, and these specifications are akin to the Tiago EV. In our market, the Punch EV will contend with the Citroen e-C3.

What We Think
Tata Motors has secured a prominent position in the electric vehicle sector within our country. The Tata Nexon EV has, thus far, achieved the highest sales among EVs in our market. Tata has also introduced other EV variants, including the Tiago EV and Tigor EV. Their effective strategy of converting existing models into electric vehicles has consistently yielded success for this Indian automaker. Their next logical step is to apply this proven strategy to the Punch model, and there’s no apparent reason why it shouldn’t achieve success once more. This initiative will expand the choices available to individuals seeking affordable Tata EVs. We are eagerly anticipating the availability of the Punch EV on our roads.
