Brezza has been the most popular compact SUV in the country for quite a while now but the popularity of Nexon is becoming too hot to handle for Maruti. This is evident from the monthly sales reports for the past few months. Let us take a closer look at the actual numbers.

Tata Nexon Outsells Maruti Brezza
Tata sold over 14,300 units of its Nexon compact SUV in March compared to just over 8,600 units in the same month last year. This marks a whopping 65% rise in sales on a year-on-year basis. Compared to the month prior to that, this number stood at a little over 12,200. This gives a clear indication of the increasing popularity of Nexon. The 5-star safety rating is a prime reason for that. Its competitor from Maruti, the Brezza sold just over 12,400 units in March 2022 compared to over 11,200 units in March 2021 marking a steady 10% increase YoY. In February 2022, Maruti sold only 9,256 units of the Brezza. The updated version of the Brezza is about to make its debut in the coming weeks.
Tata Punch Outsells Hyundai Grand i10 Nios
The micro SUV from Tata Motors, the Punch has crossed the 10,000 units sales mark in March 2022. Compared to the month prior to that when it sold just over 9,500 units, the increase is around 10%. Customers have really taken a liking to the micro SUV concept and are also impressed by its 5-start safety rating at GNCAP. It has successfully beaten the veterans in the sub-compact SUV segment where Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a prominent player. Hyundai managed to sell over 9,600 units of the i10 Nios in March 2022, compared to over 11,000 units in the same month last year. This is a significant 12% decrease in sales year-on-year.

The general trend in the market is leaning heavily toward SUVs even in the lower segments. The SUVs are taking over suppressing every other segment. There is an SUV as an alternative in almost every segment of the market. This trend is in line with the global consensus as well where the growth trajectory of the SUVs is similar.
