Tata Nexon with a DCT gearbox has been reportedly spied testing near its home plant. We are expecting the launch this year itself.
In a recent interview, Tata confirmed that its new strategy will upgrade all of its model every couple of months. It could include facelifts, limited versions or even just feature upgrades. We have seen the same happening with Tiago, Nexon and even the Harrier. Looks like Tata’s compact SUV is due for a big upgrade.
In February-March, Tata Nexon DCT was spotted testing on the roads of Pune. It was completely uncamouflaged and came with a sticker on the rear windscreen inscribed with 7-DCT. Now, again, the SUV has been spotted doing rounds around its plant with the same sticker. Does that mean we are getting the Nexon DCT soon?

As of now, Tata Nexon comes paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT. The latter is not an enthusiast’s gearbox but rather a fuel efficient one. There’s heavy gear shifting lag and even the acceleration lag with AMT. Probably, to make Nexon a driver’s car, Tata might offer it with an optional DCT.
It uses a 1.2 Litre turbo petrol engine that is good for 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak torque. As of now, it is among the most powerful SUVs of its segment. Mostly, the DCT could only come with the petrol engine and not with the diesel engine. Its 1.5 Litre Revotorq engine produces 110 PS and 250 Nm, also paired with a manual and an AMT.
Cosmetic changes could include some stickers or graphics with DCT emblems, all-black interiors and some sporty elements. The test mule spotted looks like the top-spec trim with alloy wheels and dual-tone colour. Definitely, the DCT gearbox will come only on the top-spec trims like XZ and XZ (O).

If and all, the Tata Nexon DCT is coming, we can expect it to be just about Rs 30,000 costlier than its AMT counterpart. Nexon is already one of the priciest SUVs in its class, with prices starting at Rs 6.95 Lakhs up to Rs 12.70 Lakhs (ex-showroom). In its competition, Hyundai Venue already offers a DCT gearbox with a smaller but equally powerful turbo motor.
