Ford has recently stopped manufacturing cars in India but loyal fans are vocal about supporting the brand nevertheless. On the other hand, we have the popular Tata Nexon which keeps attracting more and more customers due to its 5-star safety rating at the GNCAP and modern features. But what happens when you take these SUVs in the cold conditions of Ladakh? Let us find out.

Nexon and EcoSport in Cold Start Conditions
The YouTuber has camped amidst nature in the open. This means that the temperature during the night was somewhere around -7 degrees Celsius. This qualifies as cold conditions and makes it interesting to observe the behaviour of both these SUVs. In the morning, there is a sheet of ice covering the SUVs. When the Nexon owner goes to try to switch on the car, it didn’t happen. The owner tried 5-6 times but the Nexon wouldn’t start. The temperature at the instrument cluster of the Nexon read -2 degrees. Being a diesel, it does become difficult to get the SUV started in cold weather conditions. That is an intrinsic property of a diesel engine.

On the contrary, the Ford EcoSport gets started on the very first attempt. This highlights the stark difference between the technologies of the two compact SUVs. The Nexon owner leaves the hood of the car open once the sunlight appears. This was aimed at getting the car warm before attempting to start it again. However, the result was still the same. Then, the YouTuber kept the vehicle exposed to the sunlight for about 2 hours. When the external temperature was somewhere in the region of 8 degrees, the Nexon finally started with some effort. This is a great comparison between the two cars in the cold weather conditions. The American carmaker has ensured that diesel stays active in cold weather as well. However, both the SUV owners discuss the lack of power felt in the EcoSport, especially on steep inclines. So, there are pros and cons to both these products.
