The Nexon automatic made its first public debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The AMT gearbox option is likely to come in mid-spec versions. Price will be INR 30,000 to INR 40,000 more than the manual variants.
Tata Motors might launch the automatic variant of the Nexon compact SUV in India soon. According to a report published in Brand Equity, the automaker will debut this vehicle in our country by the end of April this year. The Nexon automatic was first seen at the 2018 Auto Expo. Since then, there have been numerous speculations regarding its launch. The automatic variant of the Nexon is going to get an AMT gearbox. This is the same unit which also does its duty on the Tiago and Tigor’s automatic versions.
We believe that only the mid-spec versions of the compact SUV are going to get the AMT unit. Recently, Tata Motors has launched a new XZ trim, below the existing XZ+. This could be in preparation for the launch of the Nexon AMT. The gearbox in question is a 5-speed unit. It is likely that only the petrol derivative will get this automatic unit. Furthermore, the prices of the Nexon automatic are likely to be INR 30,000 to INR 40,000 more than the manual versions.

In terms of design, the manual and automatic version will remain identical to each other. Visually, the only difference between the two is going to be on the basis of the variant badging. The manual version, for instance, will have the XZ badging. While the automatic variant will get an XZA badge of the boot.
Just like the Tiago and Tigor, the AMT gearbox in the Nexon is going to have a sports mode. This will help manual up-shift or down-shift gears. Consequently, helping in holding one gear for longer durations.

The Nexon comes with both petrol and diesel derivatives. The petrol variants come with a 1.2-litre, turbocharged engine. While the diesel variants come with a 1.5-litre, turbocharged unit. Both the engines come as standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Bookings for the Nexon automatic are already open at select dealerships.
