Tata Motors is all set to launch the Nexon AMT in India within the next couple of months. The automatic variant of this compact SUV was first seen at the 2018 Auto Expo. Speculations were on the rise stating that the launch of the Tata Nexon AMT might take place in the month of April 2018. However, according to recent developments, it seems that this launch currently stands delayed.
Tata Motors is still testing the Nexon AMT in India. It is working on fine-tuning the vehicle to suit the Indian driving conditions. This process might take a bit more time, resulting in the postponing of the launch. Now, it is likely that the Nexon AMT will be launched in India during the month of May 2018.

The Nexon automatic comes with a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The Tiago and Tigor’s automatic variants use the same unit. With this, the Nexon is going to be the second compact SUV, apart from the Ford EcoSport, to have an automatic variant in its line-up. Other vehicles in the same segment include the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Honda WR-V and the Mahindra TUV300.
It is likely that both the petrol and the diesel derivatives of the Nexon will get the AMT gearbox. The petrol variant of this compact SUV comes with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine. On the other hand, the diesel variants come with a 1.5-litre unit. The AMT option will be available on the mid-spec variants of the compact SUV. These are the XM and the XT trims.
In terms of design, the Tata Nexon AMT will look exactly similar to the manual variants. Similar is the case with the cabin as well. The feature list will also remain the same, depending upon the variant.

The AMT variants of the Tata Nexon will feature creep mode. This helps the vehicle move, without throttle inputs, at a slow speed, facilitating the driver in bumper-to-bumper traffic. In addition to this, the automatic gearbox also offers a Triptonic mode. This lets the driver up-shift and down-shift manually. The Nexon AMT will also get the hill-assist feature.
The automatic variant of the Nexon is going to cost INR 35,000 to INR 40,000 more than the manual versions. Currently, the petrol XT and XZ variants of the Nexon cost INR 7.32 Lakh and INR 8.57 Lakh respectively. On the other hand, the diesel XT and XZ variants of the Nexon retail at INR 8.17 Lakh and 9.42 INR Lakh respectively.
