Tata Motors has officialy launched the new 2014 replacement of their Sumo Grande, called the Tata Movus, this new MPV has been awaited for sometime. Tata has launched Tata Movus at Rs. 6.99 Lakhs ex-showroom Delhi. It comes with a 3 year/ 1.5 Lakh Km warranty. In terms of features, the Movus is better loaded compared to the Sumo Grande as it offers a host of new improvements. Some of these include flexible seating options among 7, 8 and 9 seater. It comes with a powerful VARICOR 2.2 Litre diesel engine with a peak power of 119 BHP and peak torque of 250Nm. This engine delivers an ARAI tested mileage of 15.16 KMPL.
It is equipped to take on rough terrains with a large 180 mm ground clearance, has low initial cost, low maintenance and ownership cost as well. Tata has worked on the new Movus to improve the weight distribution, drivability and an improved power steering system.
The Tata Movus will be offered in two variants only- CX and LX and the colour options are also limited to two colours viz. Porcelain White and Meteor Silver.

Tata Movus is the badge that the updated Tata Grande MUV (earlier called the Tata Sumo Grande) will wear when it is launched at the 2014 Auto Expo. along with the name-tag change the MUV is also expected to get a slew of changes to make it popular and take on competition like the Chevrolet Tavera, Mahindra Xylo, Ashok Leyland Stile etc. The name is an amalgamation of the words ‘move’ and ‘us’, and points what Tata wants to position this vehicle as, a people mover, especially targeted at the commercial transport segment than the private transport segment. The company has been trying to make it look much more cooler than it is perceived to be since it was first launched in 2008. At first the quirky styling and the ‘Sumo’ tag along with the disappointing interiors and road manners didn’t help matters, the Grande MkII made things a bit better but it didn’t still stand up to the competition that well. Now, the Tata Movus is billed to be a better MUV than ever.
What’s new?
The Tata Movus will not see much of a change in terms of design as you can see in the pictures above and below.
What will be new, is the fact that this will be a much nicer MPV in terms of NVH, features, comfort and driving characteristics. Tata’s new Horizonext program aims to achieve better quality in all their products and this is one which needed those changes for sure. On the inside the ergonomics of the cabin will be better, both for the driver and the passengers; additions like captain seats for the middle seat should help increase it’s popularity in the taxi segment. The dashboard will also get a facelift to make it more functional and easy on the eyes.
The biggest changes though will be under the skin. A new engine derived from the Safari Storme, in a de-tuned state will aid in a quieter cabin, better power delivery and more mileage (claimed mileage of 15.2 KMPL) . The clutch will be upgraded to make it easier to drive and reduce driver fatigue, and so will the gear-assembly and brakes. The NVH levels will be reduced thanks to new body mounts, engine mounts and sound-deadening material being added. 4 seating options should make it more popular among fleet owners and extended life of the clutch, brakes, and other systems should also aid in reducing costs.
