Tata Motors is reportedly working on a new MPV that’s based on the ALFA platform (same as the Altroz) and it is deemed to be an entry-level MPV meant to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
Tata motors have been quite up on their toes lately. Earlier this year, Tata Motors launched the Altroz, their first entry in the premium hatchback segment. They also facelifted the Nexon, the Tiago and the Tigor and even came out with the electric version of the Nexon. Next up on their cards is the new Tata Gravitas which is essentially a 7-seater version of the Harrier. There are now some new reports which claim that Tata Motors is also working on a new MPV.
The reports suggest that this new MPV from Tata Motors is currently under development and will be based on the same platform as the Tata Altroz. That mean this upcoming MPV will be based on the ALFA ARC platform and it will be an entry-level MPV, something that’s meant to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. The report also claims that the design of this new Tata MPV will be guided by the Impact 2.0 design language.
That means we could see a lot of Altroz design cues on this upcoming MPV. In terms of dimensions, the MPV could measure something between 3,700 mm to 4,300 mm in length as these are the lowest and highest limits of the ALFA platform. To give you a perspective, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga measures 4,395mm in length. That means it will definitely be smaller than the Ertiga and that could also mean that it wouldn’t be as roomy inside this MPV as the Ertiga.

It’s too early to comment on the powertrain options and technical details are currently very scarce. But if we were to take a guess, we are expecting Tata Motors to offer the 1.2L Revotron petrol engine and the 1.5L Revotorq diesel engine with this new MPV. The former produces 120PS and 170Nm of torque while the latter produces 110PS and 260Nm of torque. Transmission options could include a 6-speed manual as standard along with the option of an AMT.

Being based on the ALFA platform, we expect the interior dashboard layout to be a lot identical to the Altroz as well. Tata however skim the MPV of some premium features to keep the pricing competitive. Earlier, there were also reports which claimed that Tata Motors is also working on a sedan based on the Altroz which has been rumored to be called the ‘Peregrine’. It slated for a launch in 2021 or 2022 and is meant to rival the likes of the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and so on.
