Indian Multinational automotive manufacturing company Tata Motors has been spied testing its all new Tata Kite compact sedan in Pune, India. Earlier this year we reported about Kite hatchback which was also caught testing in Pune. Tata Kite hatchback is expected to be launched ahead of compact sedan launch. Kite hatchback will be launched in early 2015 while Kite compact sedan will be launched later in 2015, as revealed by CarToq. Compact sedan will replace Indigo eCS while hatchback will replace Indica eV2. Kite compact sedan will be launched as second car after Zest in the sub-4 meter compact sedan category.
If reports are to be believed the Kite compact sedan hatchback will be available in petrol and diesel engines both. It may come with turbocharger diesel engine, equipped with 1.05 liter-3 cylinder turbo diesel engine. It might also come with turbocharger petrol engine like we see on Zest, which equips Revotron engine. Following the AMT trend going on in the automobile market, it may come with manual as well as AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) like Zest (First diesel AMT car).
If we talk about the design of the car, Tata has tried to keep it a secret which is clear from the heavy camouflaging of the car to hide it. Previous offering from Tata this year- Tata Zest AMT has witnessed great success and the customers faced waiting periods extending upto 2-3 months. Zest has become even more demanded due to the AMT gearbox it employs which delivers pleasurable driving experience even in congested roads and traffic jams.
Tata Zest comes in both petrol and diesel variants. Talking about petrol engine, which is available only with manual transmission, this car is equipped with 1193 cc, 4-cylinder petrol, turbocharged MPFi engine (Revotron 1.2 T) producing power of 90 PS at 5000 rpm and 140Nm of peak torque at 1750-3500 rpm, mated to manual 5 speed transmission. While diesel engine is available in both manual transmission and AMT transmission. The 1248 cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine produces 75 PS power at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm peak torque at 1750-3000 rpm when mated to 5 speed manual transmission and 90 PS at 4000 rpm and peak torque of 200 Nm when paired with AMT transmission.
This car will compete with other cars falling in the compact sedan category like Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and Swift Dzire. According to the speculations, this Kite compact sedan will be priced around Rs. 4 lakh in India. We hope that Kite Compact sedan will help Tata to regain its lost appeal just like Zest did by boosting the sales of the company.
