Lately, Tata Indica XL reappeared on internet and this time the smoke seems to be clearing out. It seems that hatchback will soon hit the floors. In the spy shot, as well as the absence of camouflage unhealthy state of car and damaged bumper can easily be noticed. The background of the picture closely resembles to the Tata motors manufacturing unit in Pimpri.
The new version of Tata Indica XL resembles the older design in almost every aspect except the rear seat that seems larger than the previous one. This hatchback will be the first hatchback of the world to have an extended wheelbase. Through this innovation, Tata Motors has once again proved its excellence in dealing with those areas of motor world that are usually overlooked by other auto majors.
Alloy wheels indicate that the car clicked in the snapshot is a top-end variant. It will be safe to assume that a CR4 common rail turbo diesel engine with capacity of 1.4 liters will be powering this car. Another assumption that helps in picturing the new Indica XL is that this hatchback may adopt its front fascia from Tata Indigo eCS and rear may show a glimpse of Indica eV2 with the ‘Indica specific’ Christmas tree type tail lights. It seems that one of the main purpose of Tata Indica XL is to simplify the riding experience of rear seat passengers. And in respect to that, rear Air Conditioning vents can be expected as an add-on.
Indica is almost a 15 years old model, it is still doing well due to its fuel in addition running cost efficiency. And that’s one of the main reasons why Tata seems so intrigued with the idea of adding modified versions of the car from time to time. Tata unveiled Indica in 1998 and the car received such a great response that just within a week of its launch, the maker received 115,000 bookings for the car. After that Indica never looked back, it went on adding accolades and by 2001 it was the top selling car in its respective segment. And the legacy still continues. So it wouldn’t be unsafe to expect that the new Indica XL will add some new chapters in its legacy. As per some fresh reports, media sources have revealed that the Indica XL may not make it to production. Lets wait and watch.
