This new SUV from Tata Motors has been codenamed as the Blackbird and is going to sit in-between the Nexon and Harrier, will be based on the Alpha platform.
Tata Motors is all set to make a grand entrance at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show with the showcasing of four all-new products. The list includes a production-ready version of the 45X based premium hatchback along with the concept iterations of the Tata H7X, Tata Hornbill and the EV iteration of the 45X concept.
The homegrown automaker has recently revealed the name of the 45X concept based premium hatchback i.e the Altroz and has confirmed that the same is going to make its official debut in India sometime by mid-2019. The seven-seater version of the Harrier i.e. the H&X will also arrive in India this year, while the Micro-SUV i.e the Hornbill’s production version is expected to make its debut sometime during the year 2020.

With the launch of the seven-seater Harrier or the H7X and the Hornbill, Tata Motors is going to have a pretty extensive SUV portfolio. The same will consists of the Hornbill, Nexon, Harrier and the Harrier’s 7-seater derivative. That said, it seems that the homegrown automaker believes that their is enough space for yet another SUV in this Mix.
According to a Team-BHP member, Tata Motors seems to be working on an all-new compact SUV for the Indian market. Now this SUV will be based on the Alpha architecture, the same which the Altroz hatchback is going to use. And interestingly, this new Compact SUV is going to sit in-between the Nexon and the Harrier in the automaker’s product portfolio.

So far details regarding the same have been quite scarce. Hence it would be too early to comment if the same is, in fact, true or not. But it Tata Motors goes ahead with this, then this new compact SUV, which has been codenamed as the Blackbird, will compete directly against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.
