Tata is working on a 1.5-litre petrol engine that will power its upcoming Hyundai Creta rival, which is set to debut soon.
Tata Motors has been at the forefront of raising standards in Indian cars – from electric models to 5-star safety ratings. The competition offered by the car manufacturer is good for the market and eventually customers. Now, Tata Motors started working on some of its shelved projects. It has officially confirmed that it is will soon use its 1.5-Litre turbo-petrol engine. The new engine is expected to be used in an upcoming Tata car that will compete with the Hyundai Creta. Let’s take a closer look at the development of Tata Hyundai Creta Rival.

Tata is known to spend 5-8 per cent of its turnover on product development every year. Recently, it formed a separate electric vehicle (EV) division – Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited (TPEML). While the company maintains that the EVs will not affect the sale numbers of ICE (internal combustion engine) cars in India, it is trying to increase its presence in the ICE car market. The new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine will power a range of cars over 4 metres long. This includes the upcoming 4.3-metre Hyundai Creta rival, Harrier, and Safari. The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol is expected to produce around 160 HP.

The Hyundai Creta petrol is powered by the same engines as the Kia Selto – a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that outputs 115 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque/ 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 115 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque/ a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol T-GDI engine offer 143 PS and 242 Nm. The petrol and diesel engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission and optional automatic transmissions (CVT and a 6-speed torque converter, respectively). The turbo petrol engines come with a 7-speed DCT only.

The compact SUV comes in six trims – E, EX, S, SX Executive, SX, and SX(O). It comes with features like a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, gets LED headlights/ tail lamps, and ventilated front seats. There is also a 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech. Safety features include up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control (ESC). The current-gen Hyundai Creta is priced at Rs 10.16 lakh – Rs 17.87 lakh (ex-showroom). It will soon get a rival from Tata.
