The Maruti Ignis-rivalling Tata HBX has been spotted testing. Tata has already become the third-largest carmaker in the country. With the introduction of HBX in the micro-SUV segment, it is planning to expand its portfolio even further. With the popularity of products like the Ignis and Kwid, this sub-segment is destined to grow rapidly in times to come. Tata already has products in almost all the major segments in our market. With HBX that is all set to grow. An automobile enthusiast has clicked photographs of the HBX while doing road tests. Let us take a look at what to expect from the micro-SUV.

Tata HBX – Maruti Ignis Rivaling Micro SUV
The HBX is completely wrapped in camouflage but we expect it to retain the resemblance with the concept car showcased at the Auto Expo last year. This will translate into a muscular and rugged exterior appearance. Being a Tata, the build quality is expected to be high-class. It will share some of its parts with the larger Tata products. The SUV will sport a split headlamp setup with LED DRLs on the bonnet and headlamps on the bumper. There will be skid plates to accentuate the sportiness of the SUV. The side profile highlights the roof rails along with the door handles on the top of the rear door along with pronounced wheel arches. The taillamps seem to be the wrap-around type extending to the sides of the SUV.

Expected Features and Specs
The features list might include things like a flat-bottom steering wheel which is becoming very popular with modern cars including some of Tata’s own products. This gives it a very sporty feel which is necessary for an SUV. Some of the other equipment lists include a floating Digital Touchscreen Infotainment System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Air-Con vents and Digital Instrument Cluster which might be borrowed from other Tata products.

The expected engine options might include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 86hp. There might well be turbo petrol on offer as well. This engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT gearbox, which was also spied earlier. This will prove to be a huge advantage in its favour to offer the micro-SUV with engine and transmission options. The expected prices of the Tata HBX are likely to be in the region of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, ex-showroom. The HBX micro-SUV will rival the likes of Maruti Ignis, Renault Kwid, Maruti S-Presso and the upcoming Hyundai AX1.
