Tata Harrier will become the first Tata car built on a Land Rover Platform. Debut at Auto Expo 2018
Tata Motors has done an interesting move to boost their personal vehicle sales in the nation. So far, the company laid most of its resources on the TCS and Tata Steel, while the commercial vehicle sector is the automaker’s choice until some time ago. New vehicles like Tiago, Tigor and Hexa mark the start of a new era in the automaker’s history. Impressed with the customer response, Tata has taken the next step and come in the new SUV i.e. Q501 a.k.a. Tata Harrier. Read on to know more about the upcoming SUV from Tata Motors.

The Tata Harrier (Codenamed Q501) will mark its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo. The upcoming SUV is based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport’s platform. Tata recently released a trailer for their latest design philosophy, the Impact Design 2.0. The Tata Harrier will be the first product to showcase the latest design mentioned above.
We expect Tata to modify the platform to suit the Indian conditions and to keep the final cost in check. For example, the aluminium bits will be switched with steel ones to make the SUV more affordable. Our friends at Autocar India report that the SUV will be comparatively lighter at 1,650 kg. The Harrier will feature independent suspension on all four wheels. The steering gear might also be carried over from the Discovery Sport. Exactly like the donor car, the upcoming SUV from Tata will be available to order in 5 and 7 seater configuration.

Powering the Tata Harrier will be the Fiat’s 2.0-litre Multijet II turbo-diesel engine that is manufactured at the combined manufacturing base between the two automakers. Autocar claims that the 5-seater version will be launched first and offer 140 bhp of the engine. The 7-seater version will come at a later stage and besides the extra seating space, it will be powered by the 170 bhp version of the Multijet II engine. The engine will come mated to a six-speed manual transmission and the cherry on the cake will be the ZF’s 9-speed automatic transmission that will be manufactured locally. Tata wants to fiddle around with the interiors offering more interior space, especially in the third row, even more then what the Discovery Sport offers. The upcoming Tata Harrier will ride on 19-inch wheels sourced from MRF and we believe were specifically developed for the upcoming SUV as these would be High-Terrain tyres.
