Tata Motors and Mahindra will compete in the electric mobility space for many years to come
In this post, we are comparing the Tata Harrier EV with the Mahindra BE 6 in terms of the information available to us. Mahindra has been quite aggressive with its latest breed of EVs. In fact, it has launched the new-age EVs under two new sub-brands – XEV and BE. As a part of this, it launched the XEV 9e and BE 6 in our market just a few weeks ago. They represent the modern design philosophy and in-cabin tech features. On the other hand, the launch of the Tata Harrier EV is just around the corner. For now, let us compare the two.
Tata Harrier EV vs Mahindra BE 6 – Specs
The Mahindra BE 6 is available with two battery pack options – 59 kWh and 79 kWh. Based on the INGLO platform, the EV uses BYD’s Blade Cell technology with LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry. The power and torque figures range from 228 hp / 380 Nm for the smaller battery to 281 hp / 380 Nm for the larger one. On a single charge, Mahindra claims a range of 535 km and 682 km (550 km on WLTP), respectively. With a 175 kW DC fast charger, the larger battery pack goes from 20% to 80% in a mere 20 minutes. There are three drive modes to choose from – Range, Everyday and Race. In the most aggressive settings, the acceleration from 0-100 km/h comes up in a mere 6.7 seconds.
On the other hand, we are still not aware of the specifications of the Tata Harrier EV. However, it is expected to carry a battery pack of around 75 kWh capacity. This should be good for a range of approximately 500 km on a single charge. Apart from that, there will most likely be two variants on offers in terms of drivetrains – single-motor 2WD and dual-motor AWD. The power and torque figures can start from 268 PS and 380 Nm, respectively. More details will surface close to the launch.

The BE 6 embodies the latest design philosophy from the Indian automobile giant. This includes a striking front fascia, the unique side profile with the sloping roofline and a body tail end. On the other hand, the Tata Harrier EV will carry most exterior elements from the existing Harrier ICE. This means a modern front profile, an upright stance and an attractive rear section. Overall, appearance is a matter of perception.
My View
Now, selecting between these two vehicles can be quite tricky. Also, we must have to wait until the prices of the Tata Harrier EV are announced. Having said that, the final decision will depend on your personal preference. The Harrier EV will be a slightly larger SUV in comparison to the Mahindra BE 6. However, the BE 6 will be more modern and have distinct characteristics since it is based on a bespoke electric architecture. In any case, I would urge our readers to experience the two in the flesh before making up their minds.
