The Tata Harrier EV has come out shining at the Bharat NCAP with a full 5-star safety rating. Now, the Harrier EV is based on its ICE counterpart, which was already a good start. The Harrier EV was in the making for a long time. Now that it is finally here, the large electric SUV segment has become extremely competitive. This might be challenging for the carmakers, but it is a great time to be a buyer. You get all sorts of options to choose from, and the car companies are putting their best foot forward. For now, let us delve into the details of the safety rating report of the EV.
Tata Harrier EV Bharat NCAP Rating
The Harrier EV scored a full 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP in both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) categories. These incorporate impressive 32 points out of 32 in AOP and 45 points out of 49 in COP. Incidentally, these are identical scores to the Mahindra XEV 9e. The standard equipment list includes 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt pretensioner, seatbelt load-limiter, airbag cut-off switch, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No.8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder (AIS-145). All these factors contributed to the overall scores.
Diving into the details of the AOP section, the Harrier EV bagged 16 points out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test and 16 points out of 16 in the Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test. Moreover, the Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated ‘OK’. This resulted in a full 5-star rating. Similarly, the COP section encapsulates a Dynamic Score of 24 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12 and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 9 out of 13. This is good for a full 5-star safety rating. All this results in full scores in both departments.
Tata Harrier EV
The electric SUV comes with two battery packs – 65 kWh and 75 kWh. There are two electric motors for an all-wheel-drive configuration. These generate 158 PS and 238 PS of maximum power, respectively. This combination is good for a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds. Tata Motors claims a range of 505 km and 627 km on a single charge, respectively. Furthermore, the drivers can choose between various drive modes as per their requirements – Eco, City and Boost. Also, there are many terrain modes on offer – Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom. he drivers can adjust 4 levels of regenerative braking. With a 120 kW DC fast charger, the battery goes from 20% to 80% in 25 minutes. The EV retails between Rs 21.49 lakh and Rs 27.49 lakh, ex-showroom.
