It is raining EVs at Tata Motors as the Harrier EV is being readied after the launch of the CURVV EV.
The Tata Harrier EV was spied testing recently ahead of the launch of the CURVV EV on August 7. Tata Motors is already the largest EV maker in the country. It has leveraged the success of its ICE cars and launched electric versions of the same without major changes. That has helped it gain a lot of traction and market share in the Indian automobile industry. The trend of EVs is gaining momentum and Tata Motors must be given a huge credit for it. The Indian auto giant wants to ensure that it offers some EVs in every major segment. Let us take a look at the details of this latest case.
Tata Harrier EV Spied Testing
The details of these latest spy images stem from autojournal_india on Instagram. These capture the heavily camouflaged large EV somewhere in an isolated location. Perhaps, it is a mountainous region. Its silhouette gives away its true identity since it resembles the regular Harrier. That is understandable since it will be an electric version of the regular Harrier. At the rear, the roof-mounted spoiler, rear wiper, connected LED taillamps, a sporty bumper and massive wheel arches are visible. The design of the alloy wheels is also neatly concealed under the camouflage.
In one of the images, even the side profile is visible. That showcases the sheer length of the SUV. At the front, glimpses of the connected LED strip with LED DRLs are visible. That will also be borrowed from the regular Harrier. The main headlamp cluster will be positioned on the extreme edges of the bumper. All in all, the exterior styling and overall appearance will be almost identical to the ICE version save for a few elements to distinguish the two. Similarly, even the interior will possess the latest tech, connectivity, convenience and safety features just like the regular Harrier.
Specs
While the exact details about the powertrain are not available yet, there are some reports which give us an idea of what to expect. Being a large EV, it could carry a 60 kWh battery pack which can offer a range of around 500 km on a single charge. This would be a critical parameter to make it successful. Apart from that, it might be available in either a single-motor 2WD or a dual-motor AWD configuration. That will enhance its appeal and application. It will directly rival the electric version of the Mahindra XUV700 which is also slated for launch later this year. The expected starting price is Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.

Our View
Tata Motors is at the top of its game at the moment in terms of electric cars. While it has launched the electric version of almost all its highest-selling ICE cars, there are some new products on the way as well. This includes the CURVV which will be available in electric, petrol and diesel guise. The Nexon EV, Punch EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV already contribute decently to the overall sales. Going forward, it will be interesting to see how well the customers receive new Tata EVs.
