With the automatic variant of the Harrier, Tata has introduced some new features and a new range-topping trim as well. Find out the variant-wise features on offer for the Harrier.
Tata launched the BS6 compliant Harrier in India last month but apart from BS6 compliance, Tata gave the Harrier a host of other updates as well. The most important among them was a new 6-speed automatic gearbox that has been sources from Hyundai and the 2.0L diesel engine also gained 30bhp of power. That’s quite a significant bump in power. Along with an automatic gearbox and more power, Tata has also given the Harrier some cool new features as well.
Tata launched the Harrier in India last year with a Fiat-sourced 2.0L turbo-diesel engine which produced 140bhp. The engine was only available with a 6-speed manual gearbox. For the price and the segment the Harrier competes in, it really needed an automatic gearbox to really take the competition up to its rivals like the Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Hyundai Creta. Now, Tata has finally filled the void with the new 6-speed torque converter gearbox. Also, the 2.0L turbo-diesel engine now produces 170bhp and it really shows in real-world performance as well.
Tata also gave the Harrier a significant update in terms of features as well. The top-spec trim of the Harrier now gets additional features like a panoramic sunroof, 6-way adjustable powered driver’s seat, auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, and two-tone, diamond-cut 17-inch alloy wheels. The new wheels really make a lot of difference to the look of the Harrier as the older wheels looked quite bland. Tata has also added a new ‘Calypso Red’ paint shade to the range, and has redesigned the wing mirrors for better visibility.
The Harrier was originally available in four trims – XE, XM, XT and XZ. Tata has introduced a new range-topping XZ+ trim with this update as well. As for the automatic variants, the Harrier is available in three trims – mid-spec XMA, high-spec XZA, and the range-topping XZA+ variant. The XZA and XZA+ variants can also be had in a dual-tone paint scheme and with the ‘Dark’ package, which gives the Harrier an all-black interior theme, black exterior paint and black alloy wheels.
