After Harrier, Tata will also offer the Gravitas with a turbo-petrol engine. The 7-seater SUV is expected to be launched towards the end of this year.
Tata Motors unveiled the Gravitas, its 7-seater SUV, at the Auto Expo 2020. Although it was showcased in a near production-ready form, it’s launch is expected to happen in the final months of 2020. Tata commenced its testing in India, many months ago.
In a new report, we get to know that Tata Gravitas will be available in petrol as well as a diesel engine. The SUV will get the same diesel engine that came on the BS6 Harrier. The petrol engine will also come from the Harrier, which will get the engine earlier.
In focus is the new 1.5 Litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor is under development currently and that’s why there are no details of the exact specifications. However, the engine will produce over 150 BHP.

Even if the Gravitas petrol produces around 150 BHP of power, it is still more powerful than the MG Hector. Its other competitor will include Compass Petrol, which with its 1.4 Litre turbo-petrol motor produces 168 BHP. As of now, there is no petrol engine with the XUV 5OO but with its new generation upgrade next year, it will get a 2.0 Litre turbo-petrol motor.
The other engine will include its 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine. The motor now produces 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Even its petrol version is likely to get an automatic gearbox.
Gravitas looks similar to the Harrier with a longer rear portion and minor styling tweaks. Actually, it is longer, wider and even taller than the Harrier. The roof has been raised slightly on the third row, to accommodate the passengers comfortably.
Highlights of Gravitas include Harmon Kardon sourced infotainment system, panoramic sunroof, semi-digital instrument cluster, electric adjustment for driver seat, cruise control, charging port for all three rows and LED projector headlamps. Safety features include hill assist, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors with a rearview camera.

Talking about the pricing range, we expect Gravitas to become the flagship model from Tata. It could start off at around Rs 15 or 16 Lakhs going up to Rs 22 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The 7-seater might pose as a cheaper option to the Mahindra Alturas G4 and Honda CR-V.
