Tata Motors has not had the best of the times off late and the company has been struggling a lot in the passenger vehicle segment. Its premium hatchback, the Tata Vista is not doing well and so is the case with the Tata Manza sedan. But all hope is not lost and the company plans on altering the fate of both these models. Tata Motors will be showcasing an all new petrol motor at the 2014 Auto Expo which will be powering the Tata Falcon 4 hatchback (code-name for the next generation Vista) and in all likelihood will be the one propelling the sub 4-meter Manza sedan which has been code-named the Falcon 5.
Karl Slym, the Managing Director of Tata Motors has stated that the company will be bringing an all new range of cars in 2014 and an all new petrol engine. He seems pretty optimistic about the sales in the second half of 2014 and believes that these new cars and the new engine will be the key drivers of growth for the company.
Talking about the engine, it is expected to be a turbocharged motor which will be much better in terms of refinement and power over the current one. The petrol motor powering the current Vista is good enough for a puny 65 BHP whereas the new petrol motor is expected to churn out somewhere around 100 BHP which would make it one of the most powerful engines to be powering a hatchback in the country if it is true. If Tata also makes the necessary handling changes in the new Vista and the sub 4-metre Manza, these could also become the best drivers cars in the country, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here.
We are excited to see the renewed interest that car manufacturers are showing in the petrol car segment and the news of an all new engine in the new Vista is heartening too. We will keep you posted on other developments on the new Tata Falcon 4 hatchback keep tuned in to Car Blog India.
