Tata Motors is prepping up its own mid-size SUV to rival the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in our market.
Tata Blackbird will be a mid-size SUV to rival the throne captured by the Hyundai Creta for the longest time. Creta has been the highest-selling product in the mid-size SUV segment in our market. Its sibling, Kia Seltos, is the only other product in the segment to establish a distant second spot. The MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun have not posed a significant challenge to the Creta. That is the reason why Tata Motors senses an opportunity to strike and grab a large chunk of this segment for itself. The recently unveiled Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara are here to spice things up too.

Tata Blackbird To Rival Hyundai Creta
The YouTuber mentions a few reasons why one should wait for the Tata Blackbird before considering other SUVs in the segment. To start with, it will be positioned mid-way between the Nexon and Harrier making it ideal for people looking for a bigger SUV than the Nexon. What is more important is the fact that it will be priced competitively overlapping the prices of Nexon and Harrier. This puts it in the sweet spot of the Rs 11 lakh to Rs 17 lakh price bracket making it accessible to a whole range of audiences. People looking for a bigger SUV than Nexon at a slight premium will be the ideal candidates for the Blackbird.

In terms of styling, while there are no official confirmations yet from Tata Motors, we can expect an ultra-modern design philosophy from the brand. People have always been attracted to the bold, aggressive and striking appearances of Tata products. Tata has showcased its future products in CURVV and Avinya indicating the kind of design language the brand is gravitating toward. It is almost certain that some of those elements will make an appearance in the Blackbird too.

As mentioned previously, Tata Motors has not released any information regarding the Blackbird yet. Nevertheless, we could assume that there will the options of a 1.2-litre turbo petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine. These engines power the Nexon too. However, these might be differently calibrated to ensure that the bigger SUV does not feel underpowered. Talking of transmission, we will most likely see manual as well as automatic gearboxes. The expected launch of the Blackbird is between the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023.
